Fluted refers to grooves machined into a part (usually barrels or bolt carrier components) to reduce weight, increase surface area for cooling, and add rigidity. Fluted barrels work with AR-15/AR-10 upper receivers, gas blocks/tubes, hand guards, muzzle devices, and compatible BCGs. You’ll also see fluting on muzzle devices and pistol barrels. Fluted BCGs/bolts interface with standard AR uppers, charging handles, buffers/springs, and lowers. Benefits: lighter builds, improved heat dissipation, and distinctive aesthetics without sacrificing compatibility.
