KeyMod is a negative-space mounting system developed for lightweight handguard applications where a smooth exterior profile is preferred. Accessories mount directly into the KeyMod slots using purpose-built KeyMod hardware, keeping the handguard slim and snag-free when nothing is attached. The AIM Sports Gen-II KeyMod handguard free-floats from the barrel nut, keeping the handguard body off the barrel for consistent harmonics during fire. A full-length Picatinny rail section runs at 12 o’clock for optics, iron sight bases, and other top-mounted accessories without requiring an adapter. KeyMod slots at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock accept bipods, lights, hand stops, and other purpose-built accessories. Installation requires removing the factory delta ring assembly and installing the AIM Sports barrel nut with a compatible wrench. The Gen-II construction offers improved rigidity and mounting geometry compared to the original version.
