A low profile gas block replaces the standard front sight base on AR-15 rifles, sitting flush below the handguard rail and allowing the use of free-float handguards without an exposed gas block protruding above or below the rail line. The low profile design is essential for builds using free-float rails that extend to or past the gas block — a standard front sight base is too tall to fit inside these handguards and would prevent proper installation. The .875-inch bore diameter fits the most common AR-15 barrel profile at the gas block seat. Always measure your barrel at the gas block location before ordering — common AR-15 barrel diameters at the gas block are .750 inch (government and HBAR profiles), .875 inch (some mid-weight and specialty profiles), and .936 inch (HBAR and some heavy profiles). Installing a gas block with the wrong bore diameter will result in a poor fit that can affect gas system reliability. The Troy low profile gas block clamps securely to the barrel using set screws. Before installation, degrease both the barrel journal and the interior of the gas block bore, align the gas port in the block with the gas port in the barrel, and torque the set screws to manufacturer specifications. Use of thread-locking compound on the set screws is recommended to prevent loosening under recoil. Machined from steel with a durable finish for corrosion resistance and long service life.
