This charging handle incorporates several structural and functional improvements, such as an upgraded stainless coiled spring pin and is made of 7075 T6 Aluminum with an increased thickness to provide better performance under repeated fire. The AR-15 charging handle is the control used to manually cycle the bolt carrier group rearward to chamber the first round, clear a malfunction, or lock the bolt to the rear for inspection or administrative handling. It rides in a machined channel in the upper receiver and is grasped from the rear of the upper receiver. The standard mil-spec charging handle uses a small, right-side-only latch that can be difficult to actuate quickly under stress, particularly when wearing gloves or shooting from unconventional positions. An upgraded charging handle with an extended latch provides a larger surface area for faster, more positive actuation with the support hand. The Phase 5 Battle Latch installs as a direct drop-in replacement in any standard mil-spec AR-15 upper receiver — no modification to the upper receiver, bolt carrier group, or other components is required. Installation involves removing the existing charging handle and bolt carrier group and reinstalling with the Battle Latch, a basic field-level task requiring no special tools.
