The disconnector is the fire-control group part that catches the hammer after each shot and holds it cocked until the trigger is released and resets. Without a functioning disconnector the rifle won’t cycle semi-automatically. Mil-spec and aftermarket options available for AR-15 and DPMS-pattern AR-10 lower receivers.
When you fire an AR-15, the hammer strikes the firing pin and is immediately caught by the disconnector before the trigger is released. When you let go of the trigger, the disconnector releases the hammer to the sear — ready for the next shot. A worn disconnector causes hammer follow, trigger reset failures, or light strikes. Most shooters replace the disconnector as part of a complete fire-control group rather than individually, but individual disconnectors are available here for replacement or repair builds.
