NIB-X is WMD Guns’ proprietary nickel boron coating process applied directly to the bolt carrier group components. Nickel boron is an electroless coating that bonds at the molecular level to the steel substrate, producing an extremely hard, slick surface that dramatically reduces friction between the bolt carrier and the interior of the upper receiver. The reduced friction translates to smoother cycling, easier extraction, and a BCG that is significantly easier to clean than phosphate or parkerized carrier groups — carbon fouling wipes off the slick surface rather than bonding to it as it does with matte finishes. This is a complete BCG including the hammer, providing a ready-to-install assembly for new builds or as a drop-in replacement for an existing BCG. The bolt is machined from Carpenter 158 steel and magnetic particle inspected to mil-spec standards. The carrier is machined from 8620 steel and heat treated for durability. All components meet or exceed mil-spec dimensions for compatibility with standard AR-15 upper receivers, barrels, and gas systems. Available in polished and matte NIB-X finishes — polished provides maximum slickness and a bright silver appearance; matte provides the same durability and cleaning benefits with a lower-visibility finish.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is NIB-X coating?
NIB-X is WMD Guns’ proprietary nickel boron coating process. Nickel boron bonds at the molecular level to the steel substrate, producing an extremely hard, slick surface that reduces friction, resists corrosion, and makes carbon fouling much easier to clean compared to standard phosphate or parkerized finishes. It is one of the most effective BCG coatings available for reducing maintenance requirements.
What is the difference between polished and matte NIB-X?
Both finishes use the same NIB-X nickel boron coating and provide the same hardness, corrosion resistance, and cleaning benefits. The polished finish has a bright silver appearance and slightly higher surface slickness. The matte finish has a lower-visibility grey appearance while retaining all the functional benefits of the NIB-X coating.
Is this BCG mil-spec compatible?
Yes. The bolt is machined from Carpenter 158 steel and magnetic particle inspected to mil-spec standards. All dimensions are mil-spec for compatibility with standard AR-15 upper receivers, barrels, and gas systems.
