Most AR pistol builders start with black — it’s the most versatile finish, works with any rail system or handguard, and doesn’t lock you into a color scheme you might change later. The SB Tactical SBA3 Black with mil-spec buffer tube assembly is the no-fuss way to finish your AR pistol lower in one order.

You get SB Tactical’s most-adopted brace on the market plus a complete mil-spec buffer tube assembly — everything that goes behind the lower receiver. If you’re still sourcing your lower parts kit, grab that while you’re here.

SB Tactical SBA3 Pistol Brace Black (SBA3X-01-SB)

The SBA3 has been adopted by over 100 firearm manufacturers since its release — that kind of track record doesn’t happen by accident. It’s slim, snag-free, and adjusts through five positions with a push-button release. At 6.75 oz the brace itself adds minimal weight, and the matte black polymer finish takes abuse without showing it. The ambidextrous QD sling socket is built into the brace body — no add-on adapter needed.

Q: Is the SBA3 Black the same brace as the FDE and ODG versions?
A: Functionally identical — same 5-position adjustment, same 6.75 oz weight, same integral QD socket. The only difference is the polymer color. Black is the most stocked and widely available variant, which also means fastest ship times.

Q: What buffer weight should I use with an AR pistol running the SBA3?
A: For a standard 5.56 pistol build with a pistol-length or carbine-length gas system, a standard carbine buffer (3 oz) works well. If you’re running a shorter barrel with a pistol gas system and experiencing over-gassing, consider a heavier H or H2 buffer. The mil-spec buffer included in this kit is a standard carbine weight — a good starting point for most builds.

Q: Can I swap the SBA3 brace for a stock later if I register as SBR?
A: Yes. Since the buffer tube included is mil-spec, any mil-spec stock will slide right onto it. If you later go the SBR route with a Form 1, you can swap to any mil-spec stock you want without changing the tube.

Q: Does the SBA3 fold?
A: No — the SBA3 does not have a folding mechanism. It’s a fixed-extension brace that adjusts linearly through 5 positions. If you need a folding option, look at SB Tactical’s folding adapter lineup separately.

Q: What’s the difference between the SBA3 and the SBA5?
A: The SBA3 uses a mil-spec buffer tube and is slimmer and lighter — preferred for compact builds. The SBA5 has its own proprietary extension tube and a more traditional stock-like profile with an arm strap. The SBA3 is the more popular option for minimalist AR pistol builds.

Q: Is this kit legal to ship to all states?
A: Pistol braces are federally legal for use on AR pistols. State laws vary — some states restrict pistols or braces specifically. Check your state and local laws before ordering. We do not ship to states where AR pistols are prohibited.
