Keymod slots function similarly but use the Keymod standard, which accepts Keymod-compatible accessories and Picatinny rail inserts. Free-float handguards attach to the barrel nut and do not contact the barrel, eliminating pressure on the barrel from the handguard and potentially improving accuracy consistency. Drop-in handguards install between the delta ring and front sight base without removing the existing barrel nut, making installation simpler but not achieving the free-float benefit.
