Fixed front sights provide a permanent, non-folding sight post for use with a compatible rear sight in a complete iron sight system. Unlike flip-up designs, a fixed front sight remains deployed at all times and may appear in the lower portion of a magnified optic’s field of view if the sight height places the post within the optic’s image plane — making fixed sights most suited to dedicated iron sight builds or firearms where a primary optic is not used simultaneously. Low-profile fixed front sights are designed to minimize the sight’s height above the rail, reducing obstruction when used alongside an optic. High-profile fixed front sights are taller and are used when a rear sight of matching height is needed for proper sight alignment, such as on a standard A2-height front sight base position.
