Battle Arms Development Workhorse Stripped AR-15 Lower Receiver – Forged 7075-T6, Black Features

The Workhorse targets the parts of an AR build that usually go wrong. Its bolt catch pin installs with a set screw instead of a roll pin, the takedown detent spring is captured rather than launched across the room, and a 4-40 tension screw removes the play in the upper-to-lower fit. Forged 7075-T6, Type III hard anodized, multi-caliber marked.

The receiver is marked for both 90 degree and short throw selectors, so a BAD-ASS Lite ambidextrous safety drops right in, and the rest of what we stock is listed under stripped lower receivers.

What is the advantage of a set screw bolt catch pin?

On a standard lower the bolt catch is held by a roll pin that has to be driven in right alongside the finish, which is where plenty of builders leave hammer marks. The Workhorse threads a set screw in instead, so the bolt catch goes in with a hex key and no punch at all.

What does the 4-40 tension screw actually do?

It takes up the slack between the upper and lower receivers. Mil-spec tolerances permit a small amount of movement, and while that play does not affect function, plenty of shooters find the wobble irritating. The screw is included and lets you dial the fit snug.

What does a broached magazine well mean?

Broaching pulls a shaped cutter through the magwell in a single pass rather than milling it out in steps. The result is a smoother, more consistent interior surface, which shows up in practice as magazines seating and dropping free cleanly.

What are 90 degree and short throw selectors?

A standard AR safety rotates 90 degrees between safe and fire. Short throw selectors cut that down to 45 or 60 degrees so the safety comes off with less thumb travel. This receiver is marked for both, so either style reads correctly against the engraving.

Does it still take a standard lower parts kit?

Yes. It is built to the TDP, so every mil-standard AR-15 component fits. The set screw bolt catch pin and captured detent spring are refinements built into the receiver itself rather than substitutes that force you into proprietary parts.

Who is this receiver really aimed at?

Someone assembling the lower themselves rather than buying one complete. Every feature on it — the set screw bolt catch, the captured detent, the tension screw — saves time or frustration during the build. If you are paying a shop to assemble it, most of that benefit lands with them instead of you.
