Free-float quad rails attach to the barrel nut rather than the delta ring and handguard cap, completely separating the handguard body from the barrel. Because the handguard makes no contact with the barrel at any point, it cannot introduce pressure that shifts the barrel under load. This matters most for accuracy-focused builds where consistent barrel harmonics produce tighter groups at distance.
