What’s the difference between the OD Green M-LOK and KeyMod versions of this kit?
The only difference is the handguard mounting system. M-LOK uses a slotted interface that has become the more widely adopted current standard, with the broadest accessory selection from most manufacturers. KeyMod uses a keyhole-shaped slot system that was popular before M-LOK gained dominance — it still has a solid accessory ecosystem and works equally well. If you already own accessories in one format, stick with that. If you’re starting fresh, M-LOK gives you more options going forward, but KeyMod is not a limiting choice by any means.
Can I add Picatinny rail sections to specific positions on this KeyMod handguard?
Yes. Short KeyMod-to-Picatinny rail adapters are available from multiple manufacturers and attach directly to the KeyMod slots. You can add a 2″, 3″, or 4″ Picatinny section at any position — 3, 6, or 9 o’clock — to mount accessories that don’t have native KeyMod attachment. This lets you run KeyMod-native accessories where you have them and bridge to Picatinny where needed, without converting the entire handguard.
Does this kit ship with a gas block already installed on the barrel?
No — the components ship unassembled. The gas block, gas tube, barrel, upper receiver, and handguard are separate. Assembly requires installing the gas block on the barrel, threading the gas tube from the gas block through the upper receiver, then installing the handguard over the barrel. A barrel nut wrench, torque wrench, upper receiver vise block, and punch set are the primary tools needed.
What lower receiver pairs well with a 16″ rifle upper?
Any mil-spec AR-15 lower receiver will mate with this upper. For a 16″ rifle build, a standard carbine buffer tube, carbine buffer, and carbine spring are the typical lower components. If you’re going with a fixed stock, a rifle-length buffer tube is another option. The upper is machined to mil-spec dimensions with no proprietary fitment — it will drop onto any standard lower without modification.
