AR-15 vs. AR-10 / .308

Match the receiver to your platform. AR-15 uppers fit standard AR-15 lowers; AR-10/.308 uppers are larger-frame and DPMS-pattern. The two are not interchangeable, so build around one platform.

Stripped vs. assembled (complete)

A stripped upper is a bare receiver — no forward assist or dust cover installed. An assembled (complete) upper has the forward assist and ejection-port (dust) cover already in place, but still no barrel or bolt carrier group. Choose stripped to install those parts yourself, or assembled to save a step.

Receiver only — what you still need

What's the difference between a stripped and an assembled upper?

A stripped upper is a bare receiver; an assembled (complete) upper already has the forward assist and dust cover installed. Neither includes a barrel or bolt carrier group.

Does this include a barrel or BCG?

No. These are the upper receiver only — add a barrel, handguard, gas system, BCG, and charging handle to complete it (or buy a barreled upper assembly).

Do you need an FFL to buy an upper receiver?

No. An upper receiver isn't the serialized, regulated part of the rifle, so it ships without an FFL. The lower is the regulated part.
