Front Sight Basics — Height, Adjustment, and Zero

The front sight post controls elevation zero on an AR-15 or AR-10 build. Rotating the post up raises the point of impact; rotating it down lowers it. Standard A2-height front sights sit at the height of a standard front sight tower. Gas block height front sights are shorter — designed for builds using a low-profile gas block in place of a front sight tower.

Fixed front sights stay upright at all times. Flip-up front sights fold flat and deploy with a spring-loaded lever, keeping a low profile when running an optic. The Magpul MBUS Gen 2 and MBUS Pro are the most common flip-up front sights on AR-15 and AR-10 builds. The UTG ACCU-SYNC series offers tool-free windage adjustment for precise left/right alignment.

45-degree offset front sights mount at a 45-degree angle alongside a matching rear offset sight. When running a magnified scope, rotating the rifle 45 degrees gives instant access to iron sights without removing the optic.
